Colemans Contracting were awarded the Daly River Carpark Upgrade In April of 2021, the works were completed prior to the onset of the wet season of 2021. With over 30 years of experience in the Region Colemans were able to work with the Department of Infrastructure to manage changes to the original contract requirements to achieve better out comes.


Scope of Works

The scope of works for the project, Upgrading the Facilities of the Boat Ramp to improve the functionality for fisher men to safely launch their boats for longer periods of time throughout the year.


Lift the height of the Car park 0.5mt with imported rock approx 15000 Ton

Extend the boat ramp by an additional 20mt, which included demolishing the old damaged toe wall which had previously caused trailers and boat motors to get stuck in the River at low tide. This was a major safety issue as fishermen were often knee deep in water to get them out. Concrete the top of the Ramp and turning area as well as Installation of Kerbing

Spray sealing of the car park area with capacity to 60 Cars and boats, to minimize dust and stop any localised erosion of the area Installation of a concrete toilet block complete with septic tank and absorption trenches including a Boat & Trailer loading ramp for Disabled persons. Establishment of solar lights throughout the car park  Supply and design including installation of permanent water facilities.


Local Benefits

The project has improved the facility for local & recreational fishermen which extends the tourist season and boosts the economy for the local indigenous community of Daly River and its surrounding areas. The Million Dollar Fish competition runs throughout the wet season with this upgrade fishermen are able to access the water for a longer period. Indigenous employment throughout construction Phase made up 42% of the total contract sum, the Utilisation of many local employee’s and subcontractors to complete the works to a high standard showed in the overall standard of the completed works.


Environmental 

The project included proactive measures to minimise environmental impact, being so close to the Daly River, such as effective waste management and recycling programs. Colemans engaged with the local community and stakeholders, maintaining transparent communication and addressing concerns promptly. This collaborative approach ensured the project’s smooth delivery and positive relationships with all involved parties.  Colemans Management team were able to showcase our expertise in programming of the bulk haulage of product to site at a time of very high traffic use, June to August, which enabled the project to progress on time, within budget and without any accidents or incidents. The quality of material & Labour supplied by local subcontractors, the dedication of our employees all enabled a quality Asset for the Department of Infrastructure that will stand the tests of time.
